Books of the Old Testament

It's probably a good thing to keep in mind that depending on your religion there are different books to the Old Testament and the books that are shared may not read the same.  As a linguist I can tell you that translation is always important (probably why the Catholic Church only recommends certain translations for their members).  Translation is not as easy as you may think and much can be left open to interpretation depending on who is doing the translating.  Does this mean that one bible is "more correct" than another?  I'm sure that people will tell you it is, but with how much time has passed since the Old and New Testaments were written, we cannot possibly tell the author's true intent.

Since I am Catholic (and there's no guarantee that anyone else will be joining this journey with me), I will be posting assignments from the books that are in my Old Testament.  That does not mean that I disagree with anyone else's version, but a path must be chosen.  If your faith doesn't have all of these books you are welcome to sit that week out, but that means that you won't be able to take part in the discussion.  If your Old Testament has more books, please let me know where they would fit into the list and we can see about fitting them in.  This is about learning, after all!

These are the 46 books of the Old Testament in order.  As a "book" is assigned for reading, I'll put the dates beside it and post a link directly to that week's posts for easy reference.
